Verdo Lab (“we”, “us” or “our”) establishes this Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) regarding the handling of user information in the iOS and Android app “Plantory” and its related websites (collectively, the “Service”).
1. Business Operator
- Operator: Verdo Lab
- Address: Wind Ebisu Bldg. 8F, 2-4-8 Ebisu-nishi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0021, Japan
- Contact: support@plantory.net (English and Japanese supported)
* The name of the individual operator will be disclosed without delay upon request via the contact above.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following information in providing the Service.
- Account information: email address, display name, and profile photo (all optional). When used as a guest, only an anonymous ID is used and no email address is collected.
- User-created data: plant records (name, scientific name, location, acquisition date, etc.), growth logs, photos, notes, wishlist, and similar data.
- Purchase information: information about the status and history of paid-plan purchases (processed through the App Store / Google Play and RevenueCat; we never receive your credit card number or other payment credentials).
- Technical information: authentication tokens, app version, OS version, error and crash information, etc.
- Items requiring device permission: photo library / camera (only when selecting or taking photos) and notifications (only if you enable care reminders).
- Advertising identifiers: we may collect an advertising identifier (iOS: IDFA / Android: Advertising ID) for advertising measurement. On iOS this is collected only if you allow tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt (see Section 4-2).
* The Service does not collect GPS or other device location data. “Location” fields are free-text entered by you.
* For quality improvement, the app uses Sentry for error monitoring and PostHog for product analytics. These automatically collect crash and error information, app usage data (screen views, feature usage, etc.), and device information (model, OS version, language settings, etc.). This information is linked only to an anonymised user ID and is used solely for statistical analysis and bug fixing.
3. Purposes of Use
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Account authentication and identity verification
- Providing Service features such as storing, syncing, and backing up your data
- Sending care reminder notifications (if enabled by you)
- Confirming and managing paid-plan purchase status
- Responding to inquiries
- Investigating defects, improving quality, and developing new features
- Responding to conduct that violates the Terms of Service
- Sending important notices regarding the Service
If we change a purpose of use, we will do so only within a scope reasonably related to the original purpose, and will publish the changed purpose by revising this Policy.
4. Third-Party Services (Processors)
We use the following third-party services to provide the Service, and some or all of the above information is transmitted to and stored by them.
- Firebase (Google LLC, USA): backend services including authentication (Authentication), database (Cloud Firestore), and storage. Data is stored on Google’s infrastructure.
- RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA): management of Plantory Pro purchase status. RevenueCat processes purchase information and an anonymous app user ID. Billing itself is handled by the App Store or Google Play.
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA): crash and error monitoring. Processes technical error data and an anonymised user ID. No name or email address is sent.
- PostHog (PostHog, Inc., USA): product analytics (which screens are used). Processes an anonymous user ID and screen/interaction events.
- Meta (Meta Platforms, Inc., USA): advertising measurement and delivery optimisation. Processes app events such as installs and launches, and advertising identifiers. On iOS, advertising identifiers are used only if you allow tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt. All app features remain available if you decline.
For how these services handle information, please see their privacy policies:
4-2. Advertising Identifiers and Tracking
We may use advertising identifiers (iOS: IDFA / Android: Advertising ID) and app events (installs, launches, etc.) to measure and optimise the advertising we run for Plantory.
- On iOS, advertising identifiers are used only if you select “Allow” in the App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, no advertising identifier is used.
- On Android, you can delete or reset your Advertising ID from Settings → Google → Ads.
- Declining does not limit any Plantory feature.
- The app does not display third-party advertising inside the app.
5. Cross-Border Data Transfers
As described above, your information may be stored on servers located in the United States and other countries. These transfers are made as entrustment of processing necessary to provide the Service, and we use only providers that we have confirmed implement appropriate security measures consistent with the Japanese Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI).
6. Provision to Third Parties / Advertising
- We do not provide personal information to third parties without your consent, except as required by law or where necessary to protect a person’s life, body, or property.
- We do not sell your information to third parties.
- The app displays no advertising inside the app. However, as described in Sections 4 and 4-2, app events and advertising identifiers may be sent to an advertising platform (Meta) to measure the advertising we run to promote Plantory.
7. Security Measures
To prevent leakage, loss, or damage of personal information, we implement necessary and appropriate security measures, including encryption of communications (TLS), access controls, and proper management of credentials. For details of these measures, please contact us at the address below and we will respond as required by law.
8. Data Storage and Deletion
- Your data is stored under your own account (uid).
- You can delete your account and all associated data via “Delete account” in the app. Deleted data cannot be restored.
- You may also contact support@plantory.net to request data deletion (English and Japanese supported).
- When you delete an individual plant or photo, the corresponding image files are also deleted.
- After account deletion, data is erased within a reasonable period unless retention is required by law.
9. Requests for Disclosure, Correction, and Suspension of Use
In accordance with the APPI, you may request disclosure, correction, addition, or deletion of your retained personal data, suspension of its use or erasure, and suspension of provision to third parties. To make a request, please contact us at the address below. After verifying your identity, we will respond without delay as required by law. Most account information and user-created data can also be viewed, corrected, and deleted directly in the app.
We do not charge a fee for notification of the purpose of use or for disclosure requests.
10. Notes on Guest Use
If you use the Service without registering an account (as a guest), your data is tied to your device and an anonymous account. It may be lost if you delete the app or switch devices. To keep your data, please register an account.
11. Children
The Service is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
12. Cookies on the Website
Our website (plantory.net) uses infrastructure services such as Cloudflare for delivery and protection, which may involve technically necessary cookies. We may also use analytics tools to understand and improve site usage.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy in response to changes in law or the Service. For material changes, we will provide notice in the app or on our website before they take effect.
